Clifton Hill House

The conference will take place at Clifton Hill House, in Clifton village, Bristol.  Clifton Hill House was built around 1747 as a Palladian inspiration for Bristol merchant and ship owner, Paul Fisher. This fine house was once the home of Victorian writer John Addington Symonds. It is now used for functions and meetings all year round and boasts elegant Georgian reception rooms, a print gallery and foyer.

Arriving by car:

If you do decide to bring your car to Clifton Hill House please be aware that there is virtually no car parking on the premises. There is an NCP car park just at the bottom of Lower Clifton Hill. From M4/M32: At end of motorway, take the Right lane at traffic light to Bus Station, Clifton At roundabout, 2nd exit to Bus Station, BRI, University, Clifton After half a mile, Left lane at traffic lights under Wills Tower. Through next traffic lights, then Left down hill to Watershed, Museum, A4 After 400m, turn Right at bollards up Constitution Hill At top of hill, turn Right into Lower Clifton Hill. Clifton Hill House reception is 20m on Right.

From M5 South Exit at Junction 19 follow Easton-in-Gordano, Clifton (Toll) After 4 miles, Left lane to Clifton via Suspension Bridge TO CROSS THE BRIDGE YOU WILL NEED 30P IN SILVER COINS After bridge, straight ahead to mini roundabout, turn Right Through Clifton Village, after quarter of a mile, turn Right at small green on Right, then immediate Left onto Lower Clifton Hill. Clifton Hill House reception is 20m on Right.

From M5 North Exit at Junction 18 follow Bristol and Airport A4 After 5 miles, under Suspension Bridge, Left lane to City Centre A4 After half a mile, Left at roundabout to Clifton, University, BRI, Redland After 300m, Left up Constitution Hill At top, turn Right onto Lower Clifton Hill Clifton Hill House reception is 20m on Right.

Arriving by train:

There are two mainline railway stations in Bristol, Temple Meads and Parkway. If you have a choice, you are advised to arrive at Temple Meads as it is much closer to Clifton. From here a taxi to Clifton Hill House will take about 20 minutes and should cost approx £6. Alternatively, the number 8 and number 9 bus services (renumbered 508 and 509 at certain times of day) also run to Clifton.

Arriving by coach:

Marlborough Street Bus Station is situated in the centre of Bristol. From here you can take a taxi to Clifton Hill House (the taxi rank is right outside the bus station). The taxi will take about 20 minutes and should cost approx £6. For information about coach times and fares consult the National Express website at http://www.nationalexpress.com
