David Foster Wallace and the Short Things is a one day conference to be held at the University of Bristol on 08/07/2015, devoted to the short fiction of David Foster Wallace.
The intention is to explore the short stories, novellas, and story cycles in more depth, and to trace the impact of Wallace’s short fiction in the contemporary short story more widely.
The Keynote speaker is Dr Stephen J. Burn (University of Glasgow), author of David Foster Wallace’s Infinite Jest, A Reader’s Guide (2003), editor of Conversations with David Foster Wallace (2012), and co editor of A Companion to David Foster Wallace Studies (2013). For over a decade, Dr Burn has been at the forefront of Wallace scholarship, and his paper is sure to provide new insights into Wallace’s use of experimentation in the form of the short story.
The event is sponsored by The Alumni Foundation of the University of Bristol; The Head of English Subject Fund; and The Graduate School of Arts and Humanities at Bristol.
